Passenger Screening - liquids, aerosols and gels (LAGs) restrictions

On 31 March 2007, additional security measures were introduced on all international flights leaving New Zealand. These measures apply carrying liquids, aerosols and gels on board aircraft in carry-on baggage.

Any liquids, aerosols and gels taken in carry-on baggage must comply with the following requirements:

  • All liquids, aerosols and gels must be in containers of 100ml or less
  • Passengers must carry their 100ml containers in a re-sealable transparent plastic bag of 1 litre volume (this is a re-sealable sandwich bag like those available at your local supermarket)
  • Each passenger, including children, will be allowed to carry on one, 1 litre transparent plastic bag
  • The plastic bag must be re-sealable and presented separately from all other carry-on baggage at the screening point

For a full list of all the liquids, aerosols and gels please click here . Passengers can still pack as many of these LAGs as they like, in any quantity, in their hold baggage.

These LAGs restrictions do not apply to domestic flights within New Zealand. For more information on these restrictions please visit www.flysmart.govt.nz

Passenger Screening - Dangerous Goods Restrictions

For the safety of all passengers restrictions relating to dangerous goods apply on domestic and international flights.

Check with your airline before travelling if you have any questions about Prohibited Items or Dangerous Goods. This is particularly important with regard to items such as firearms (Prohibited Items) and ammunition (Dangerous Goods). Certain items are not allowed to be carried into the cabin of an aircraft but can be put into passengers' checked luggage while other items are classed as Dangerous Goods and must not be transported on aircraft at all.

For a list of Prohibited Items that can be transported in checked luggage please click here .

See www.caa.govt.nz for further information or contact your airline.
