Waitomo Caves

Deep underground in the heart of the Waikato are a series of unique caves that will take your breath away.

From the spectacular Glowworm grotto with its twinkling ceilings to Cathedral cavern where New Zealand's own opera diva Kiri Te Kanawa once performed, and the swirling rivers, echoing waterfalls, and rocks that flow into delicate shawl-like formations, Waitomo has an adventure on offer to suit everyone.

Black Water Rafting is another hugely popular pursuit which gives visitors of all ages the chance to abseil, weave, jump, and float through a glowworm studded subterranean wonderland. There are also many other adventure tourism offerings along with walking tracks around the area for those keen to take in the region's scenic natural landmarks.

Deemed a world-class tourist attraction, the Waitomo Caves are easily accessible by car or coach.
