Hobbiton in Matamata

In September 1998 Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema discovered the Alexander family farm near Matamata during an aerial search for suitable film sites - and the rest as they say is history...

This quirky and highly entertaining tour of the Hobbiton Movie Set and Farm Tours set is a must any movie buff, child, child-at-heart or J.R.R. Tolkien fan.

Visitors are escorted through the ten acre site including hobbit holes and a working farm while hearing the fascinating story of how the movie set was created, what went on during filming and what is yet to come.

Sheep and dairy farming demonstrations, restaurant facilities and farm stays are all also available at Hobbiton Movie Set and Farm Tours.

Situated in the northern centre of the North Island, Hobbiton Movie Set and Farm Tours is within two hours drive of Auckland, and 45 minutes from Hamilton, Rotorua or Tauranga. Transfers and day packages are available from a number of main New Zealand cities.
