Congratulations to our Super 440 promotion winners, Liz and Roy who set off to Taupō earlier in April  for a weekend that, for them, wasn’t just another motorsport event. It was a return to something familiar.

Roy spent 32 years with Dick Johnson Racing, starting back in 1980 working on the iconic XD Falcon. The one with the kind of record that still raises eyebrows: 23 starts, 17 wins, and a Bathurst victory in 1981. Liz was part of the same world too, working across merch, online orders, and even guiding tours through the workshop and museum.  

This time however, they were on the other side of the fence. No tools in hand. Just passes, access, and a full weekend to soak it all in.  Their prize package included return flights with Jetstar, weekend passes to the ITM Taupō Super 440, course car rides, and grid walk access. Proper behind-the-scenes stuff!   

Liz and Roy didn't waste a minute! From trackside viewing to getting out on the course itself, they were right in the thick of it. When they weren’t trackside, they leaned into Taupō’s other side and spent an afternoon with Huka Falls River Cruise, gliding along the river.  A quieter kind of thrill, but no less memorable.

As Liz put it, “We had time to take in the beauty of the region. These memories combined with our passion for Supercar racing will be with us forever.”

With an easy trip into the region, they had the time and headspace to explore beyond the track too. A bit of Taupō, a bit further afield, and a few surprises along the way.  Exactly what a getaway should feel like.
